Two seriously injured in Monroe County crash

Two people were seriously injured, with a total of six people injured, in a head-on crash that occurred about 8:10 p.m. on Friday along Route 611 at the Mount Pocono sewage plant.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the crash involved a Chevrolet Camaro and Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle.Police said the Camaro was northbound when the driver attempted to pass vehicles and entered the southbound lane.At this point the Camaro and the Mitsubishi collided head-on. Police said improper passing and speed were factors in the cause of the crash.Upon impact four people in the Camaro were ejected. They were identified as Kirk Randler, 46; Katrina Strauser, 42; Gunner Strauser, 18; and Ricky Strauser, 22, all of Long Pond.Two people in the Mitsubishi were identified as Orlando Gonzalez, 66, and Carmen Gonzalez, 67, both of Queens, New York.Two of the injured were flown by medical helicopter to area hospitals in critical condition, police said.The other injured were transported to medical facilities by ambulance. Police did not name the two who were flown by helicopter.Police said multiple emergency medical units were dispatched to the scene. Pocono police were assisted by Pocono Township police and by Pocono Mountain Fire Company volunteers.The investigation of the crash is ongoing.
