Injuries averted in Polk accident

No one was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 12:40 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Burger Hollow and Pheasant Run roads in Polk Township, according to state police at the Lehighton barracks.

Police said the incident happened when a 1999 Mazda Protege operated by Kristen A. Schultz, 19, of Lancaster, which was traveling north on Burger Hollow Road, failed to stop at a stop sign, proceeded into the intersection at Pheasant Run Road and crashed into a 2005 Ford Taurus operated by Linda L. Zacharias, 64, of Effort. The latter stopped at a four-way stop sign at the intersection and proceeded to cross Burger Hollow Road when it was struck by the Protege.Police said Schultz's vehicle continued to travel on Burger Hollow Road, crossing over into the southbound lane of travel and off the roadway, where it made impact with a large rock. the vehicle, which sustained disabling damages, came to final rest off the roadway.The Taurus continued to cross Burger Hollow Road and came to final rest in a driveway off Pheasant Run Road.Police said Schultz was cited for stop sign and yield sign violations.
