The Department of Environmental Resources cited Nis Hollow Estates Wednesday for water problems.

In early April, residents of Nis Hollow Estates were urged by Mahoning Township supervisors to contact the Department of Environmental Protection due to water issues.Again, on June 12, the problems returned, and residents were left without water for six days.According to resident Tara Heydt, there was no emergency supply administered to the residents.When the water supply did start working again, the pressure was barely enough to successfully flush a toilet."I personally have not been drinking the water since we moved in," Heydt said of the water that smells like chlorine. "Nobody seems to care, and it just keeps getting worse."She said attempts to contact park Manager Christina Green are left unanswered.DEP visited the estates on Wednesday and cited the park for failure to supply adequate water, failure to notify DEP of problems within one hour and failure to notify the public that there was a problem with the water supply.According to Colleen Connelly, spokeswoman for DEP, the issue keeps arising because of a faulty well pump that is too large for the water well that is in use."They can still use that well and that pump, but the water pressure is going to be slow," Connelly said.For now, residents should be put on a boil-water advisory until the pump is replaced or the water gets back up to speed, Connelly said.Efforts to reach the Nis Hollow Estates manager this morning were unsuccessful, but an automated message notified residents to boil their water until the well is repaired. It is not known when the well will be repaired.
