A Lansford man is being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at his home. A police officer grabbed a garden hose to help to contain the blaze.

The fire broke out just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph Collins residence, 254 E. Abbott St.Collins lives there with his pregnant wife, Stephanie, and three children, Logan, Jaden, and Rylan.Police said all but Collins were outside the home when they got there.He thought his wife was still inside and ran back in the burning building, police said. Collins was taken to the hospital for treatment.The fire was contained to the rear of the house.Lansford Police Officer Joshua Tom was checking on a double-parked vehicle about a half a block away when someone came running from the residents screaming that there was a fire.Tom ran to the scene and grabbed a garden hose at a neighbor's house, then battled the flames.Meanwhile, Officer Shawn Nunemacher, who was also close by, came to the scene and helped Joseph from the scene.Fire Chief Joe Greco said at the scene the cause of the fire had not been determined.Joe Cannon, second assistant chief, said the fire was contained to the Collins home.Firefighters from Lansford, Summit Hill, Coaldale, Nesquehoning, and Jim Thorpe responded. Fire police from Lansford and Summit Hill handled traffic control.Joseph was transported from the scene by Lehighton Ambulance
