Luzerne driver facing DUI charge

A Luzerne County driver is facing several charges, including driving under the influence of a controlled substance, following an incident that occurred on March 19 in Nesquehoning.

About 1:26 a.m. Officer Brian White was on patrol along Route 209 between Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe, and rounding a curve when his patrol unit was almost struck head-on by another vehicle. White turned to avoid a collision.White turned his cruiser around and went after the other vehicle making a traffic stop about a mile away. The driver was identified as Jonathan Dejesus, 32, of 114 E. Fourth St., Hazleton.He was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. A check also revealed the registration on his Chrysler 300 was a dead plate.Dejesus was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, Coadale, for a blood test. The test results confirmed the presence of a controlled substance.In addition to the DUI count Dejesus was also charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, no passing zones, careless driving, unauthorized transfer or use of registration, driving on roadways laned for traffic, and reckless driving.
