DUI suspect drunk in court for second time

A Lehighton man was jailed on Thursday after he appeared at the county courthouse in Jim Thorpe under the influence of alcohol again.

Andrew Anthony Kressler, 65, appeared on the third floor of the courthouse to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika to a charge of disorderly conduct. That charge stemmed from a Jan. 17 incident at the courthouse when Kressler appeared at the adult probation office and was under the influence of alcohol. He was jailed and later released on bail. The charge was filed by the sheriff's department. On Thursday, when Kressler appeared in the third floor hallway, court personnel detected the odor of alcohol on him.He was taken to the probation office, where he submitted to a breath test.Matika was told by probation officer Kimberly Cooper that Kressler had a 0.18 BAC.The judge then remanded him to the custody of Cooper, who had him committed to the county jail for violating the conditions of his release on bail. The plea hearing will be rescheduled.
