Man admits to fleeing police, DUI

A Carbon County man entered guilty pleas to fleeing and attempting to elude police and driving under the influence on Friday, May 2, in the county court.

He was one of seven defendants of enter pleas before Judge Joseph J. Matika. All were scheduled to go on trial Monday in the county court but instead entered into plea bargains with the district attorney's office.Nesquehoning incidentsBradley Zettlemoyer, 29, of Lansford and formerly of Nesquehoning, pleaded to the two counts in separate incidents, both occurring in Nesquehoning.The fleeing occurred June 11 when borough police were informed by Jennifer Marchorro that Zettlemoyer took her 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, without her permission.Later in the day police spotted the vehicle along Route 209 with Zettlemoyer driving. Police attempted to stop him and he sped away. A chase ensued at high rate of speeds on various streets of the borough. During the course of the chase, Zettlemoyer failed to stop for stop signs at various intersections, police said, and failed to use turn signals.Police stopped the pursuit due to safety concerns. The next day, June 12, at 4:28 a.m., police were dispatched to 3 W. Columbus Ave. to a report of Zettlemoyer at the home. He fled on foot but was later located and arrested.The DUI incident occurred on May 25, 2013, when Zettlemoyer was stopped along W. Catawissa St., near Mermon Ave. Given a test, the result was 0.12 BAC.Matika said he would go along with the plea agreement despite being reluctant to do so because he takes a dim view of anyone who flees a police officer.On the fleeing charge he placed Zettlemoyer on probation for a year and ordered he render 50 hours of community service. On two summary motor vehicle code violations he was fined a total of $50 and costs.On the DUI charge, a first offense for sentencing purposes, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. The terms run concurrently.Other pleasOther defendants who entered pleas included:Curtis C. Morris Jr., 29, of Wind Gap, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on May 25, 2013, along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. Given a test, the result was 0.07 BAC. The test also showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on May 5.Stephanie Patricia Wagner, 23, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of simple assault. She was arrested by Palmerton police for an incident on March 16, 2013, in which her brother was the victim.She was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program for first-time offenders but was revoked from it for violating the conditions.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered she render 50 hours of community service.Moises Flores, 20, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of criminal conspiracy-unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was arrested on Nov. 19, 2012, by Nesquehoning police for taking his mother's vehicle without her permission.He was placed on probation for a year, ordered to get a D&A evaluation and render 50 hours of community service. The probation runs concurrent with a probation period he is currently serving.Christopher A. Reedy, 25, of Schuylkill Haven, pleaded to one count of retail theft. He was arrested an incident at the Wal-Mart store in Mahoning Township in which a television taken.Sentencing was deferred. It was noted Reedy is facing charges in Schuylkill County and has applied for placement in the state prison system's Intermediate Punishment Program.John Glassic, 31, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Aug. 16, 2013, along Indian Hill Road by Franklin Township police after being involved in an accident. Given a test, the result was 0.28 BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance for D&A use and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on May 9.Daniel Engroff, 36, of Wilkes-Barre, pleaded to one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was arrested on July 23, 2013, by Franklin Township police for taking a 2004 Ford Ranger without permission.Sentencing was deferred.All defendants sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
