A brand new light and power building could eventually be constructed in Lehighton.
By a unanimous measure, borough council on Monday agreed to advertise the project for bid.Borough manager Nicole Beckett said that depending on the bids, a new four-bay building could be constructed to house the borough's light and power equipment at 551 Bridge St.The current substation building would then be demolished at some point to make way for the new building, Beckett said.In other business, council:• Adopted an ordinance defining, prohibiting, and providing exceptions for the consumption and possession of alcoholic beverages on borough property.• Agreed to make an amendment to a borough ordinance that allows businesses in Lehighton to place tables and chairs outside their establishments from sunrise to sunset. Businesses have permission to do so at present, Beckett said.• Agreed to advertise for adoption a Quality of Life ordinance.• Granted conditional approval to the Semanoff subdivision plan, conditioned upon the borough receiving outstanding fees. The three-lot subdivision will take place at the Riverfront properties on Lehigh Drive.• Granted approval for officer Matt Bender to attend State Police Cadet Camp from July 20-25, and to wear the Lehighton Police Department uniform at graduation.• Agreed to terminate the payroll processing contract with SafeChoice Software Solutions, effective June 30.• Agreed to contract with ADP for payroll processing, workforce NOW and time clock subscription, effective June 30.• Approved a resolution to authorize the police vehicle lease and authorized signers.• Agreed to advertise the lock box ordinance.• Agreed to update the borough's contract with CreditTech, which collects the borough's delinquent utility accounts. As a result, the borough will not be reporting delinquencies to the Credit Bureau, Beckett said.
