White Haven man killed in crash

A 61-year-old White Haven man is dead after his pickup struck a tree Saturday on Owl Hole Road in Foster Township, Luzerne County.

State Police in Hazleton said an ATV rider came upon Ray Keiper in his black Chevrolet Silverado after he had apparently struck a tree on Owl Hollow Road. The witness called 9-1-1 and troopers arrived on the scene at 3:35 p.m.Police said Keiper had been traveling north on Owl Holow Road, descending toward Valley Road when for unknown reasons the truck went off the left side of the road, into a group of trees. Police said the driver kept his foot on the pedal, causing the truck to dig deeply into the silt on the edge of the roadway. The truck eventually ran out of gas and shut off.According to police, the collision did not appear to have been sever enough to result in the victim's death.The investigation will continue as toxicology and autopsy results are pending.
