Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met March 27 with 56 members in attendance. Vice President Nancy Gerber conducted the business session and Jacque Patrick provided the invocation "My God is no Stranger."Reports were offered by secretary Ruth Ann Feane and treasurer Penny Schlorf. Pat Regalis and John Fredericks were added to the sick list. Plans for a pizza party and trip to Shady Maple were discussed.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on Route 54 (east) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.SS. Peter and PaulStations of the Cross are held every Wednesday during Lent, at 7 p.m., in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Before Stations, there will be an hour of prayer, recitation of the rosary and confessions, beginning at 6 p.m.The choir will rehearse after Stations on Wednesdays.First Friday will be observed this week with confessions at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls will begin at 9 a.m., with the exception of parishioners in the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, Coaldale and Hometown. Communion calls were made to those areas on Thursday morning.April 5 is a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass this Sunday and receive Holy Communion as a group. A rosary will be said before the Mass.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA, including nursery and primary church. Sunday school classes, for all ages, will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Good News Club meets at 3:45 p.m. at the South Ward Playground; Wednesday, Community Lenten service, noon, at New Life Assembly of God Church, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., TYM staff meets at 8 p.m.; Thursday, study of the Book of James, 1 p.m., at the Majestic House; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m.Calvary EvangelicalJulianne Heiney and her husband, Sam, will be the guest speakers at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Mrs. Heiney is a lay leader and former discipleship coordinator for the Faith Alive United Methodist Church.Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a Bible study session, led by Andrew Gerber, will be held at 6:30 p.m.A midweek Lenten service will be held at Calvary on April 9. The evening will begin with a singspiration at 7:15 p.m., followed by the service at 7:30 p.m.
