PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia police say a speeding car first crashed into a fire hydrant, then a large metal garbage bin, before it went airborne and landed in the drive-thru lanes of a bank. One man was killed and a second was injured.
The crash happened at about 4 a.m. Sunday in the Bustleton section of northeast Philadelphia.
Police say an SUV driver was speeding when his vehicle hit a curb and struck a fire hydrant. The hydrant then flew into a parked car.
Police say the SUV continued into a parking lot and hit a garbage bin. Both the SUV and bin went airborne and landed in the drive-thru lanes of a bank.
Police say a 28-year-old passenger died at the scene. The 23-year-old driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.
