Wanted man nabbed after Lehigh Township chase; school was in lockdown

A Northampton County man, wanted on arrest warrants in two counties, was nabbed on Wednesday after a short chase.

Lehigh Township police in Northampton County said an officer on patrol about 9:14 a.m. spotted a Mini Cooper being operated by Ryan Redline, 27, of Northampton. The officer knew there were arrest warrants for Redline.The officer turned his cruiser around to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Blue Mountain Drive and Route 946, but the Cooper abruptly turned into a parking lot and Redline fled on foot into nearby woods. Police also received intelligence information that Redline may be armed with a handgun.Township police called for assistance and also notified the Lehigh Township Elementary School of the incident. The school was placed in lockdown as a precaution. Police, however, said they did not believe that Redline was in proximity of the school.Assisting township police in the search for Redline were state police and a state police helicopter, Northampton and Walnutport police along with a K-9 unit from Northampton borough.Redline was arrested a short time later as he emerged from the woods in the area of the Blue Mountain Drive-In restaurant.He was arrested on active bench warrants from Northampton County and a probation violation warrant issued in Lehigh County.Township police said new charges will be filed against Redline for possession of marijuana. No handgun was found in his possession, police noted.
