Two people were injured following a three-vehicle crash on the McCall Bridge Friday evening.
The crash happened at approximately 5:20 p.m., on Route 209 on the bridge, in Weissport. The crash caused major traffic tie-ups during the busy Friday commute for motorists traveling southbound for approximately 45 minutes.According to Lehighton State Police, Howard J. Zellner, 50, of Palmerton, driving a 1998 Kia Sephia, was traveling southbound on the McCall Bridge and was in the left turning lane of Route 209 when he failed to stop for stopped traffic. The Kia struck a 2006 Honda CR-V, driven by Tara L. Remaley, 43, of Lehighton, at approximately 25 mph, pushing it into a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Keith A. Shelly, 55, of Weissport. All vehicles came to rest within the left turn lane.Police and emergency personnel responded to clear the crash. Traffic heading southbound was detoured during the cleanup.Zellner and Remaley were transported to Gnaden Huetten Hospital for moderate injuries. Shelly was not injured.Assisting on scene were Lehighton Police, Franklin Township Police, Franklin Township Fire Company, Lehighton Fire Police and Lehighton Ambulance.
