Body found in Jim Thorpe identified as a Tamaqua woman

Police have identified the body found in Jim Thorpe as a 35-year-old Tamaqua woman, according to her family members.

Donald R. Serfass of Tamaqua said police have confirmed that the body of his niece Angela Steigerwalt was discovered Saturday morning off Flagstaff Road in Jim Thorpe.Serfass said Steigerwalt was last seen when she left for her job at Kraft Foods Friday night.“She put so much joy into everyone’s life,” Serfass said. “The whole family was so proud of her.”State police said earlier today that they were looking for a Buick LaCrosse sedan in connection with the homicide. The family said her car was discovered in another state.According to the police report, the remains were discovered off Flagstaff Road, at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, while Jim Thorpe Fire Department personnel were extinguishing a reported brush fire.Police said Steigerwalt’s body was thrown over a 15-foot embankment into the laurel bushes.Serfass said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
