Weatherly Hall of Fame Four individuals and 1976 basketball team are latest inductees

Four individuals and a basketball team were inducted into the 23rd Weatherly Area High School Sports Hall of Fame, Saturday.

The induction occurred prior to the varsity basketball game between the Wreckers and Columbia Mountour Vo-Tech.The inductees are:• Dan C. Andrews.• Donna M. (Tarapchak) Carlson.• Lauren Kelshaw James.• Dick Ritter.• The 1976 boys basketball team.The induction was conducted by Superintendent Thomas McLaughlin and Athletic Director Scott Zoscin.Dan C. AndrewsAndrews is a 1968 graduate of Weatherly Area High School.He was a member of the cross country, basketball, and baseball teams. He was the only junior starter on the 1966-67 Anthracite League and District X1 championship team.After graduating from Weatherly, he attended and graduated from Keyston College and continued his education at Wilmington College in Delaware where he received a bachelor's degree in business. Having a life-long passion for airplanes, he pursued a career in aviation.He presently is a senior executive with AERO Inc., a family owned business with facilities in several parts of the United States.He resides in Weathery with his wife, Karen, and their daughter, Kate.Dick RitterRitter is a 1967 graduate of Weatherly Area High School. He was a member of the basketball and baseball teams.He was a starter on the 1966-1967 Anthracite League and Disxtrict XI Championship team.He led the team in rebounding and blocks and averaged 7.76 points per game during his senior season.He also was a member of the 1964-1965 basketball team that won the District 2 championship.He was a pitcher and first baseman for the Wreckers during his junior and senior seasons. His most memorable pitching performance was against Hazleton High School. Weatherly lost the game, 1-0. Hazleton came into the game with a team batting average of .370, yet Ritter struck out 11 batters.Presently he owns a trucking company.He resides in Pittsgrove, N.J. with his wife, Betty.Lauren Kelshaw JamesJames, a 2005 graduate of Weatherly Area High School, was a four sport athlete.She was a four sport athlete. She was a four year starter on the girls' basketball and softball teams, and played three years of varsity volleyball and running cross country.In basketball, she scored 1,769 career points, ranking her fourth among the school's all-time leading scorers.She recorded 145 three point field goals in her career, while averaging 18.5 points per game and led her team to the playoffs during her junior and senior seasons.After graduating from Weatherly, she continued her education and basketball careers at Lock Haven University. A two-year starter for the Bald Eagles, she amassed 975 career points and was a starter in her junior and senior seasons.She graduated from Lock Haven with a B.S. degree in health and physical education.After teaching for three years in the local area, she relocated with her husband, Brandon, and their daughter, Lily, to Portsmouth, VA where she currently resides.She is presently employed in the accounting division of the Franklin-Johnston Group in Virginia Beach, VA.Donna M. CarlsonCarlson is a 1979 graduate of Weatherly Area High School and was a four sport winner as a member of the basketball, softball, cross country, and golf teams.She also was the class valedictorian.On the basketball team, she helped her team make it to the district playoffs in her senior year.She also excelled on the softball field where she was a four-year starter and an excellent pitcher and first baseman.She joined the cross country tream as a junior and won almost every race. She set course records at many of the local courses. She finished third in the district meet and qualified for the state championship during her junior year.She went on to attend Penn State University where she received her bachelor's degree in engineering science and a master's degree in industrial engineer.During her first two years at Penn State's Hazleton campus, she competed on the volleyball, tennis, and swimming teams.She is presently employed at the Hallandale Beach Police Department in Florida.She still runs half marathons and recently complted her first marathon.The 1976 Boys'basketball teamThe 1976 boys' basketball team is being honored for winning the District XI Class A championship and advancing to the PIAA Eastern final.The team was coached by Tony Antinozzi. Assistant coaches were Rick Weidick and Bob Thomas.Team members were Ed Hadzick, Charlie Randy "Wolfey," Joe Kurtz, Ernie Powell, Gary "Jonsey" Gerhard, Randy "Wolfey" Richardson, Tim "Hooks" Wagner, Dan "Foster" Gerhard, Brian Pfeiffer, Brent Pfeiffer, Carl Neidlinger, and George Wood.The trainer was Bill Gentilesco. Managers were Don Gerhard, Joe D'Andrea, and Joe McMonigle.
