Recently between 60-70 pajama-clad boys and girls between the ages of preschool to third grade attended the annual "Get In the Spirit" Children's Christmas Program at the Palmerton Area Library.

The children gathered in the children's book area and started off the evening by writing their letters to Santa. Next they all gathered around to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, who read the book titled "The Christmas Pumpkin."The party got into full swing with the group singing Christmas carols. Haley Scheirer of Palmerton lead them in singing "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and Olivia Bellis, Palmerton, started them off singing "Frosty the Snowman."Afterward, the children gathered in the upstairs main room, where they decorated a pinecone tree, made a paper snow globe, colored in a paper pumpkin and decorated their own Christmas cookies. The children were able to take home all of their creations.The evening ended with the opportunity for each child to sit on Santa or Mrs. Claus's lap and tell them what is on their Christmas list. Parents and grandparents were encouraged to take photos.Each child was given a candy cane and they were able to choose a brand new book to keep, compliments of the library.The organizers of the program said they were pleased with the turnout.The Christmas party was sponsored by the Palmerton Library Teen Group and Friends of the Library.The Teen group welcomes new members between the fifth and 12th grades.
