Tamaqua driver facing DUI counts

A Tamaqua man has been cited in connection with an incident at the Fegley Mini Mart, Center Street, on Nov. 9.

Neil A. Hoffman, 40, of 220 High St., was operating a black Jeep Cherokee when he pulled into the mini mart at 2:48 a.m. Hoffman miscalculated and struck the safety pole at one of the gas pumps, tearing the rear fender from his vehicle. Officers noted a strong odor of alcohol on Hoffman's person and asked him to submit to field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for blood tests.The test results indicate he had a .187 percent blood alcohol contest, more than twice the legal limit of .08 percent.He was charged with two counts of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol.
