Unique Halloween program Wednesday in Tamaqua

Tamaqua Historical Society will present "Death, Mourning and Burial Customs During the Victorian Era" at 7 p.m. on Halloween Eve, Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center on Pine Street.

Dale Freudenberger has long been interested in Victoriana. He is well known as the guide for the Spirits of Tamaqua Ghost Tour, an October tradition that entertained guests for a span of almost 10 years beginning in the late 1990s.Wednesday's mourning program, free to the public, will include the history of many past and present traditions, and a display of original Victorian funerary artifacts including historic funeral-related items and photographs from Tamaqua. Donations will be accepted. Light refreshments will be served afterward. Visitors are invited to join in the "spirit" of things and arrive dressed in a black Victorian mourning outfit, although dressing is not mandatory."We are dying to see you there," says Freudenberger, society president.
