Teen arrested following robbery at Turkey Hill

A 16-year-old boy, wearing a trench coat, black ski mask and armed with a long knife, was apprehended by area police just before 3 o'clock this morning after allegedly holding up the Turkey Hill Minit Mart on East Broad Street in Tamaqua.

Police were called to the mart at 2:31 a.m. for a report of an armed robbery involving a large blade knife. Shortly after, police from Tamaqua and surrounding departments gave chase to the suspect along Spruce and Center streets and areas in between.Tamaqua police reported that the juvenile demanded the clerk go inside and remove money from the cash register while threatening the clerk with the knife.Reportedly, that is when the clerk entered the store and gave the suspect the cash in the register, which reportedly amounted to less than $100.Police added that the suspect was still wearing the trench coat and the ski mask when apprehended and had the knife and cash on him. The suspect was identified as a juvenile male from the area.He was turned over to juvenile authorities.The following charges are filed on a juvenile allegation; robbery, prohibited offensive weapons, terroristic threats, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and simple assault. Taking part in the pursuit were police from Tamaqua, McAdoo, West Penn Township, Rush Township and Coaldale.Tamaqua Ambulance also responded and treated the juvenile for unknown injuries. The male clerk was not injured.
