Like a French horn player practicing the same notes over and over, Isabel wailed through the region last night and early today, disturbing sleep and toppling trees.
Numerous power outages were reported. Parts of Tamaqua, Jim Thorpe and Mahoning Township were without electricity this morning.PPL said 293,433 of their customers were in the dark because of the storm. By 9 a.m., about a third had electricity restored.The heaviest winds came overnight, keeping road crews and volunteer fire police very busy.
