Lions continue flag program in S. Hill

Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program this week.

The program was resurrected starting with the Memorial Day weekend festivities as a means of honoring and/or memorializing veterans from the community. For one-week periods, the club will fly the American flag at the Ludlow Park site to remember current and former town residents who gave service to our country. As the program continues this week, the flag will fly in honor of John Keltz, a 1941 graduate of the former Summit Hill High School who is a Navy veteran of World War II. He served from 1941-45 and attained the rank of aviation machinist's mate first class while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the South Pacific Theater of Operations.Town residents are invited to contact Lions Club members to have their family member or friend scheduled to be honored or memorialized. Joseph O'Gurek Jr., 645-5171, is in charge of the scheduling. Those making a request to have a veteran scheduled should provide that person's service record. The only stipulations to be scheduled are that the person being recognized is a current or former town resident and must have served in the Armed Services.
