The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for September, including the monthly birthday party on Sept. 18.Other activities for the month include: Sept. 4, bingo; Sept. 5, bulletin board; Sept. 6, baking apple cakes; Sept. 11, final trip to Heisler's Dairy Bar; Sept. 13, craft day; Sept. 16, show and tell; Sept. 18, musical entertainment with Audrey Christ; Sept. 23, cooking class; Sept. 25 Salvation Army service; Sept. 26, magic beans mosaics.Upcoming fundraisers include a spaghetti dinner on Sept. 7, at the Tamaqua Elks; and the Boscov's Friends Helping Friends event on Oct. 22.In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.Both require advance notice. The event is open to all local veterans, who may also bring one guest and is free of charge.The picnic will begin at noon.Reservations are required in order to ensure there are enough refreshments and food. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at: 15 a.m.A reception luncheon for Pastor Williams will be held Sept. 8. A reception committee meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 to finalize plans.Calvary MethodistThe annual Lewistown Valley Tabernacle Camp meeting will be held this weekend at 614 Valley Road, Tamaqua.Friday will be Missionary Night. Guest speaker for the 7 p.m. service will be Austin Sullivan. This will also be a campout night.The Rev. Jeff and Jeannie Shelburne will provide the music and message at Saturday's 7 p.m. service, as well as Sunday's 10:25 a.m. service.Also on Sunday, Sunday school class will meet at 9:15 a.m., and the Wehry Family will present concerts at 2:30 and 6 p.m.On Monday, Labor Day, a time of testimony and praise will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., the Wehrys will provide a concert at 2:30 p.m. and the 6 p.m. service will feature Rev. Jeff and Jeannie Shelburne and Randy Wehry.
