More than 12,000 pounds of pork, on the hoof, went on sale recently to benefit the local 4-H members who raised the hogs for the Carbon County Fair.
The hog auction proceeds, competition prize money and a $944 scholarship fund helped defray hog-raising costs among the 4-H contestants. Fifty-one hogs were auctioned yesterday for a total of $8.568.27.Top seller was the grand champion individual of the show, a 231-pound pig raised by Jeremy Everett, Lehighton. First on the block, the porker was bought for $3.35 a pound by Hatfield Packing Co. of Hatfield, Pa.
