State police at Frackville are investigating the stabbing of an inmate at the state correctional institution (SCI) at Mahanoy, located at 301 Morea Road, Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County. The incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Troopers said Patrick L. Wagner, 26, was found unconscious on the floor of the dayroom bleeding from the head. He was apparently assault with a shiv (stabbing type device).Wagner was removed from the dayroom and taken to the infirmary where he received initial treatment. He was later transported by LifeFlight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for further treatment. He is under guard of correction staff members at the hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, troopers said.A joint investigation between SCI staff and troopers is continuing.
