Wall, two vehicles struck in Tamaqua parking lot

Shocked onlookers watched as an older man crashed his SUV into a wall and two parked vehicles Saturday night in Tamaqua. The incident took place a short distance away from American Hose Company's annual community bazaar.

Tamaqua police report that Theodore Michaud, 81, Tamaqua, was driving an Isuzu Rodeo when he struck the wall and then a van and a car behind the Majestic House Apartments.Witnesses told police that Michaud first struck a wall along River Street near the corner of East Rowe Street and side street to the Majestic House. A witness told police, "He floored it and kept his foot on the gas as the tires spun."Police added that Michaud, who resides in the Majestic House, then crashed into a parked Chevrolet Venture van, owned by Ray Schlauch of Tamaqua.The impact pushed the van over a parking block and into a wall.After that, the witness told police that Michaud backed into a Chevy Malibu, owned by Calvin Follmor of Tamaqua. This impact pushed the Malibu close to the edge of the Little Schuylkill River.Michaud told police that his car "acted up."Watching the incident, local resident Ray Yocum ran over to Michaud and grabbed the keys out of his ignition. Yocum added that a large crowd was standing in the parking lot only a few minutes prior.Tamaqua ambulance crews also responded and treated Michaud.All vehicles had to be towed away.Officer Joseph Krebs is investigating.
