A major improvement project has begun at Jim Thorpe Memorial Park, while a second round of upgrades at the community's Kemmerer Park will soon get under way."Memorial Park is going to undergo quite a change. It will be safer and more user friendly," said Ben Walbert, an architect and former Jim Thorpe councilman who has spearheaded both projects.Workers will soon be removing several old children's rides that the state deemed unsafe. Some of those rides may date back to the 1920s, as they apparently came from the long-gone Glen Onoko Park in East Mauch Chunk.
