Activities for the 250th anniversary of the West End of Monroe County continues.

Two members of the Chestnuthill anniversary committee were wearing lavender shirts with the anniversary logo on back during a recent meeting.The agenda for the July 18 meeting was full as it was getting to the point where final decisions had to be made.President Norman Burger suggested something for the young crowd should be available. Frisbees were suggested. Dave Fleetwood thought insulated travel mugs should also be added to the list of merchandise.Merchandise will be sold at various upcoming events throughout the four townships such as Ross Days, a gun show at the West End Fire Company, an October cemetery walk, the Halloween parade in Eldred, and events at Chestnuthill Township Park.The chief of staff for Senator Pat Browne will be at the Sept. 7 event at the West End Fairgrounds.A proclamation has been received from the state Senate. Burger suggested having a formal presentation of the proclamation made following the parade. A protocol area will be set aside for special guests. Presentations will be made on the main stage, followed by the music of the Riverside Rhythm Swing Band and The Hawks.The fair will occur the previous week, but fair directors will leave seating in place for the anniversary event.Burger ordered 1,000 commemorative history books. The cost of the 290 page book will be $20.The August meeting will be the deadline for donations to be included in the book.The display at the West End Library will be changed to old toys.The committee will have two display cases and three tables inside the museum during the Fair. They will have Indian items, household implements, carpenter tools and toys, and are accepting old things donated for the display. It was noted the buildings are locked at night so donations will be safe.Burger talked to people about a chestnut tree restoration project. A demonstration site may be planted at the Regional Park.Time capsules will be individual for the townships but will be in the park also.The townships are being contacted about an oldest person to act as grand marshal for the parade. Some people were mentioned as possibilities but they want the supervisors and historical societies to make the choice.William Koehler reported there is good response to the website www.facebook. com/westend.250th.There will be two meetings next month: Aug. 1 and Aug. 15.
