A Monroe County hostage situation ended safely Wednesday when the suspect released a woman and girl uninjured.
Pocono Mountain Regional police said Edward Terantion, 61, of the Pocono Plateau Park development located along SR115 in the Blakeslee section of Tunkhannock Township, released a woman he held and her six-year-old daughter.Terantino, who is stepfather to the woman, surrendered after releasing the two hostages.The incident began Wednesday morning. He released the girl early in the afternoon and the mother a few hours later. He was taken into custody about 3 p.m., police said.Found in the home was a .40-caliber handgun and a scoped rifle, police added.Police said the development was evacuated while the situation went on and negotiations with Terantion continued.Terantino has been charged with kidnapping, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, terroristic threats, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, and reckless endangering.After arraignment Terantino was placed in the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post bail.
