Attendance at the seven Lehighton area playgrounds had a slight decline last week, due to the extremely hot weather and the July 4 holiday.

A total of 814 youngsters participated in various events at the East Penn, Franklin, Community Grove, Mahoning, Parryville, Skyline and Weissport playgrounds. The top attendance was recorded at the Lehighton Community Grove when 192 young folks turned out for the events.Winners were named in a hopscotch tourney, coloring tourney, knok-hockey, a shoe scramble, scavenger hunt and costume parade.
