4 vehicles, 10 persons in crash

Four vehicles carrying 10 persons were involved in a chain-like reaction crash at 5:56 p.m. June 29 on SR209 in Polk Township, Monroe County. State police at the Lehighton said one person was hurt.

Injured was Adam M. Elliot, 17, of Morgantown, Berks County. Police said he sustained a minor head injury and was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.Police said the crash took place northbound near the intersection with Hideaway Hills Road.Police said the accident happened when a 2006 Dodge Ram truck driven by Joseph R. Peters, 62, of Norristown, was attempting to turn left into the parking lot of Frank's Pizza, and a 2012 Chevrolet Impala operated by John R. Schmidt, 65, of Kresgeville, was directly behind the truck. At that time, a 2008 Honda Ridgeline driven by Daniel J. Techman, 17, of Morgantown, failed to slow down in time and crashed into the rear of the Impala, causing it to hit the rear of the truck. The fourth vehicle, a 2002 Volkswagen Passat operated by Jacob M. Ewing, 16, of Birdsboro, Berks County, crashed into the rear of the Honda.Police said Elliott was one of three passengers with Ewing. The other two and Ewing were not hurt, nor were the other three drivers and three passengers with Techman.Police said Techman and Ewing will be cited for failure to maintain a proper speed.
