This isn't going to be just any ordinary Chinese auction.
Indeed, Saturday's event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company Social Hall figures to be quite the unique attraction. The Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company and The Red Knights Firefighters Motorcycle Club have joined forces to present the event, according to Robert Spairana, Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company trustee.Among the multitude of items expected to be on display include memorabilia from Bruce Koch, a former Lehighton Area Industrial Technology teacher, who has collected various wares throughout his 30 years of teaching.Koch's collectibles will be laid out at the social hall, and will consist of assorted college pennants, signs, flags, banners, NASCAR trading cards, prototypes from his shop class, civil defense collectibles and assorted paraphernalia.Koch, who is also the assistant fire chief of the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, and a loyal member of The Red Knight's Firefighters Motorcycle Club, routinely decorated his classrooms for all of his students to admire, Spairana said."This auction will be unique because it is all collectibles, not new merchandise," Spairana said. "Mr. Koch wanted his pupils from past years to have a chance of winning the articles they have admired through the years."The fire company will also display vintage neon beer signs and firefighting equipment. In addition, The Red Knights will be adding to the auction to bring the total to well over 100 items. As a group effort, the proceeds will be split 50/50. The Red Knights portion will go to their fire victim's fund, while the fire company's share will go toward their fire equipment fund. Also at the event will be a silent auction for an early 1900s Bowmanstown Motorcycle Policeman's Uniform. The kitchen will be open for refreshments. For more information, call (610) 554-4511, or (610) 852-2722.
