Anthony R. Ades, 55, of 250 Cedar Street, Tamaqua, is in the Schuylkill County prison regaining sobriety after being committed by Judge John E. Domalkes for appearing in court inebriated. He was entering a guilty plea to several criminal charges.

He now has to re-apply for setting of bail for release from prison as the judge also forfeited his bail. He must decide if he wishes to reinstate his guilty plea obtained under a plea bargain with the district attorney or go to trial.The incident occurred while Domalakes was presiding at guilty plea hearings held last week in court. The defendants stood in front of the bench but Ades was in a wheelchair. Although he does not suffer from a physical handicap he was so much under the influence of alcohol he was unable to walk and sheriff deputies brought him into court in the wheelchair.The judge usually reads off a list of questions as required by the law to determine if the defendants are entering the guilty plea voluntarily. Also, one of the questions asked is if the defendant had ingested any drugs or alcoholic beverages which would impair their ability to understand the procedure being undertaken.Looking down the bench Domalakes noticed Ades eyes were closed and he was snoring. He then addressed Assistant District Attorney Douglas J. Taglieri and asked what is the district attorney's position? Taglieri responded that he was leaving it up to the judge to make the decision.Domalakes then addressed Attorney Nicholas Quinn, representing Ades, who answered, "What can I say." Domalakes then took action, revoking Ades' bail and remanding him to prison for further action. As Ades was being wheeled out of courtroom he appeared to be waking up.He had been charged by West Penn Township Chief Brian J. Johnson, with two counts of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering police officers and one count each of terroristic threats, institutional vandalism (damage to police car), and exceeding maximum speed.The police report states during a chase from West Penn Pike to New Ringgold he was clocked at 87.4 miles-per-hour. The plea agreement has Ades being sent to a state correctional facility.
