Motorcyclist injured in crash

A Schuylkill County motorcyclist was slightly injured in a crash over the holiday weekend. The crash was one of three reported by state police at Frackville.

Troopers said Daniel Gaughan, 53, of Girardville, was operating a 1988 Harley-Davidson Sportster southbound on Mahanoy City Road, in Mahanoy Township, about 5:50 p.m. on Monday, May 27, and negotiating a left curve. He failed to maintain his lane of travel, went onto the berm and lost control on some gravel.The bike then went into a ditch and came to rest down a small embankment. Gaughan, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by Mahanoy City ambulance personnel. He was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.Troopers investigated a hit and run crash about 3 p.m. on Friday, May 25, along Schuylkill Avenue in West Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Gloria A. Sands, 64, of Shenandoah, was stopped in a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee yielding to an ambulance which was parked on Swatara Road.Another driver attempted to pass Sands on the right side and struck the passenger side front of the Jeep causing minor damages. The other driver fled the scene.The hit and run vehicle is described as a dark-colored sports utility vehicle which should have damage to the driver's side.A one vehicle crash was reported on Monday, May 17, along Interstate 81 in Butler Township. Troopers said Erik W. Grosvenor, 23, of Eynon, Lackawanna County, was driving a 2012 Subaru Impreza southbound about 6:15 a.m. when a deer entered the road in front of him. He was unable to avoid the animal and struck it with the front end.Grosvenor and his passenger, Samantha A. Raneilli, 23, of Olyphant, were not injured.
