Mural will be chanced during Black Diamond event Carbon Art League donates mural to Temple/St. Luke's

A mural, titled "The Art of Healing", was recently unveiled by members of the Carbon County Art League in the lobby of the St. Luke's - Miners Campus in Coaldale.

Four members of the league, who spent a combined 120 hours painting the 4-by-6 foot mural, said they made the mural to highlight the many different aspects of the St. Luke's University Health Network and its new connection with Temple University in Bethlehem.Combining their talents with the mural were league members Linda Christman of Lehighton, Paula Zelienka of Palmerton, Christine Eubanks of Lehighton and Margie Long of Lehighton."Wanting to do a community project, the league chose to work together to paint and donate the mural for St. Luke's," said Diane Luicana, Black Diamond Committee Chair, St. Luke's - Miners Campus. In addition to the St. Luke's star, the colorful mural consists of about 16 different painted scenes, to include health care, schooling, patient care, family support, PennSTAR, technology, mining history and so on."This was our first group painting," said Christman. "Ddespite the callenges involving colors, subject matter and how to present it, the mural turned out really great.""Highlighting the benefits of going to Temple, we incorporated various professions into the work," said Eubanks, who said she once trained in Coaldale as a nurse herself. The painting will later be moved to the Harry Packer Mansion for Black Diamond Garden Party guests to enjoy, as well as take a chance on. The winner's name will be labeled on the painting, which will permanently reside at the Temple University/St. Lukes Medical School in Bethlehem. The Black Diamond event is set for Saturday June 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Asa and Harry Packer Mansions, Kemmerer Park in Jim Thorpe."Join us as we celebrate and raise funds to support the Medical Scholarship Fund to bring future physicians to our network," said Bill Moyer, President, St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus."The Temple Unversity School of Medicine/St. Luke's University Health Network (Temple/St. Luke's) is a regional campus of the Temple University School of Medicine," said Micah Gursky, Director of Development, St. Luke's - Miners Campus. "Temple/St. Luke's is an exciting collaboration between two leaders in health care education and patient care."In addition to the members of the Carbon County Art League, Luicana added that a number of students will also be on hand at the event to talk with guests and visitors. For more information about the event, contact Gursky at (570) 645-8118 or Luicana (570) 325-9699.
