The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met May 2 at the Masonic Lodge in Hometown, with 72 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.Jacquie Patrick provided the invocation, titled "Little Children's Mother's Day Prayer" in honor of Mother's Day. Reports were presented by the secretary and treasurer.A discussion was held on the annual picnic, to take place Aug. 15, with Christy Joy catering providing the food. Members were reminded to refrain from parking in the driveway to allow access for emergency vehicles. A get well card was sent to Helen Tribillia.Mother's Day will be celebrated at this week's meeting.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Board of HealthThe May meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health took place at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, James Gormley, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N and health enforcement officer Mitch Geist in attendance.Geist reported issuing 31 health licenses. An additional nine inspections were conducted, but the establishments failed and no licenses were issued. Two homes were posted as unfit for human habitation.There were 15 trash complaints received and adjusted.There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.The board meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Rev. Roberts will also officiate at a contemporary service at 10:30 a.m., at the Tamaqua YMCA. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.Also on Sunday, the membership class will meet at 9:15 a.m.Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., praise rehearsal at 8 p.m.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. A children's message will be presented by Marge Kropp. Children's Sunday school will meet following the children's message.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, chancel choir rehearses at 7 p.m.
