Carbon County ranked second among the 67 counties of the state in the rate of deaths due to cancer during 1976, according to a just completed study of cancer mortality and morbidity by the State Department of Health. The study shows that during the five year period from 1971-1975, deaths from cancer in the county averaged 100 a year, as against 135 such deaths during 1976, giving the county a cancer mortality rate for the year of 258.6 per 100,000 population, and a five-year rate of 212.8. Lung cancer was the highest of the causes of cancer deaths.
