Chestnuthill Township Supervisor Chairman Chuck Gould noted at the recent supervisors' meeting that Polk Township voted to join CJER Regional Plan.

"It's a major thing and we thank them for that," said Gould.He also stated that the township received $600,000 from the Local Share Account (LSA)-Monroe County. These funds are made available by the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act for the purpose of distributing the 2 percent of gross terminal revenues from Mount Airy Casino Resort. Chestnuthill Township has earmarked those funds for the Lake Mineola bypass road.Resident Stuart Thody brought to the attention of the supervisors that the township's website still had information on it about Thanksgiving and Christmas. He also wanted to know what urgency the township engineer was working on the stoplight timing issue at the intersection of Route 115 and State Road.Supervisor Chris Eckert said that the timing was looked into and PennDOT will be informed of the findings.There will be an Easter egg hunt at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. with 5,000 eggs for the egg hunt.Supervisor Vice President Dave Fleetwood said the next Chestnuthill Township Historical Society meeting will be on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m., and the Chestnuthill Township 250th Anniversary Celebration committee meeting will be on Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m.Donald Zipp, director of Emergency Management, reported that in February, West End Ambulance responded to 158 calls, four of which required two ambulances; and the West End Fire Department responded to 75 calls. The Pennsylvania State Police responded to 3,606 calls for service in Chestnuthill Township in 2012. Some of those calls were: 101 DUI arrests, four robberies, 73 thefts, 38 retail thefts, 23 sex offenses, 10 aggravated assaults and one kidnapping.The PSP responded to 280 calls for service in January of this year, and 250 in February, with one attempted homicide.The board approved, 2-0, Resolution 2013-06 in approving the Alan and Phyllis Conklin easement, with supervisor Chairman Chuck Gould abstaining because of being a relative. The easement is about 112 acres that would add another piece to the township's Open SpaceThe township has applied to Monroe County for a $150,000 grant. The property is appraised at $2,000 an acre, which would make the total $224,000. business manager David Albright said that if the price exceeds that amount, the township cannot buy it. But the Conklins might accept less.Fleetwood noted that the township still has funds left in its Open Space account of about $130,000.The board approved, 3-0 Resolution 2013-07, to move forward with any and all items necessary to acquire the Echeverria acquisition, located along Route 209, Brodheadsville, to help revitalize downtown Brodheadsville. It is the property that was formerly a pet store and at one time, the site of the M.F. Weiss plumbing business. It is across the street from the Brodheadsville Veterinary Clinic. The asking price is $150,000."If the township owned it, we could put parameters of what could go in there. It will take some dollars to renovate it, but the price has come down from the original asking price of $299,999," said Gould.Supervisor Eckert said that because of its deteriorating condition, several people have asked what the township could do about it."I tell them nothing, unless we own it," he said.Resident Thody asked if this was a new venture for Chestnuthill to acquire property.Gould replied, "We thought it was a good opportunity to revitalize some of Brodheadsville."Eckert said that it was a chance to keep Brodheadsville from looking like a depressed area."Chestnuthill is doing well. It would be good if it looked like it, so when people drive through the area they could say, 'This looks like a nice town.'"Chairman Gould added, "This is a new avenue for us. We're feeling our way through it."Township tax collector June O'Neil asked for permission to destroy 2004 and 2005 paper tax records. Office manager Cathy Martinelli said that it was a two-step process. The board approved, 3-0, to give O'Neil permission in Resolution 2013-08 and Resolution 2013-09.Eckert had to leave and the board approved the following business, 2-0:• to trade the township's 2007 Chevy Impala, which was purchased new, for traveling to meetings and used in grounds and maintenance, for a 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab truck with towing package, from Colonial Auto. It was discussed that the car was not meeting the township's needs. The truck has 117,000 miles on it. Gould and the township mechanic checked the truck out and gave their approval.• roadway use and maintenance agreement to U. S. Pipeline for two small sections, one at Effort/Neola Road and the other at Sugar Hill Road.
