Muzzleloader group set for season opener

First Frontier Militia, the muzzleloader branch of Bowmanstown Rod and Gun Club and a member club of the Pennsylvania Federation of Black Powder Shooters, will conduct its first event of the season, Sunday, March 10, beginning at 9 a.m.

Matches are held for flintlock and traditional exposed hammer percussion firearms typical of those of the pre-1840 era. Paper targets are shot at distances of 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards, and novelty matches - including those from Colonial times, such as "over-the-log" - are also held.Highlighting this year's shoot schedule is a two-day rendezvous, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 and 13.Otherwise, matches are held the second Sunday of the month through December on the following dates: April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, November 10 and December 8.Direction signs are posted the day of the events on Route 248 between the Parryville and Bowmanstown exits, and the club is located on Gun Club Road.For information, contact Roger Fisher at 610-377-2812.**********This year's Lehigh Valley Sportsmen Show is today and Sunday, with show hours today from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Agricultural Hall, Allentown Fairgrounds, Allentown.For information, call 610-395-5280 or access the website at
