Birthday celebration leads to citation

McAdoo police have cited a Tamaqua area man who apparently celebrated his birthday just a little too much.

Officers were on patrol at 12:48 a.m. Nov. 24, 2012, when they stopped a blue Buick that was southbound on Kennedy Drive after noticing a problem with the registration sticker. When speaking with the driver, identified as Robert J. Roman, 70, of 19 Zellner Rd., Tamaqua R.D., officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car. Roman said he had been in Hazleton celebrating his birthday with family members. He was given, and failed, multiple field sobriety tests. A portable breath test indicated a .107 blood alcohol content, while a blood test taken a short time later registered his BAC as .136 percent. He was cited for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, driving an improperly equipped motor vehicle, and improper display of a registration sticker.
