The Switchback Gravity Railroad Foundation is studying plans to construct a 3-D simulator, possibly in Jim Thorpe. The project was conceived by Walt Niehoff of Vestal, N.Y., a native of Lehighton who is active with the foundation. The anticipated project cost is $300,000. The simulator would provide spectators the sights, sounds, and motions of riding a Switchback railroad car, although they would be sitting in a room and watching it on a screen. Similar simulators are located at major amusement parks.
