State Sen. John Yudichak (D-Luzerne/Carbon/Monroe) and Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) announced Tuesday, nearly $800,000 in state grants for four projects in Carbon County.

"The gaming industry has provided Pennsylvania with a great opportunity to fund community improvements that create jobs and that advance and upgrade our local public safety efforts," Yudichak said. "These four Carbon County projects are well-deserving of state funding and will certainly improve the quality of safety and the delivery of service in our communities."The following Carbon County projects received funding:• Weatherly Borough received $400,000 to assist with Phase II construction of a new police station, which includes the installation of interior, mechanicals, communication systems, and fixtures to make the building functional.• The Carbon County Redevelopment Authority received $235,000 to assist Blue Mountain Health System with the renovation of their facility at Sixth and Iron streets, which will house the health system's Adult Day Center and its Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center in Lehighton Borough.• Nesquehoning Borough received $85,000 to purchase a new, 2013 multipurpose vehicle for the New Columbus Fire Company, which will enable the fire company to provide a faster emergency response time during inclement weather and emergency situations.• Kidder Township received $79,199 to make renovations to the municipal building that include replacing a portion of the roof, new siding, updating the HVAC and electrical system, energy efficiency upgrades and other interior improvements.All projects were approved at a meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.The funds were made available through the allocation of gaming funds for community and economic development projects.
