A check presentation made during a meeting of the Lehighton Rotary Club signified the end of the Lehighton Visiting Nurse Association. Edward R. Knappenberger, chairman of the VNA for many years, presented a check for $11,202.53 to Edward Conarty Jr., president of the Ambulance Association of Lehigh Fire Company No. 1. The funds were from the VNA account. The VNA, started in 1921 by the late James I. Blakeslee, has not been active for 37 years. The visiting nurse project was adopted by the Rotary Club as a community service project in February 1967.
