A 17-year-old Albrightsville male has been charged in connection with the theft of a wallet at the Carbon Career & Technical Institute, located at 150 W. 13th St., Jim Thorpe.
Borough police said on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, about 9 a.m. they were called to the school and told by teacher, Claudia Derby, that the left her classroom and upon returning noticed her wallet had been removed from her purse. Derby also informed police that she noticed one of her students walking from the area of her classroom before discovering the wallet missing. Police asked the student about the incident and he denied taking the wallet.A short time later police were dispatched to the school and were informed that the wallet had been found and the male had fled the school. En route police observed the male in the 1200 block of North St. and took him into custody.Police were told that a witness had seen the student place an item under a bush along13th St. Police were informed the witness took Derby to the area and she found the wallet. Missing from the wallet was $65.Police then transported the male suspect to their station, gave him his rights in the presence of his guardian, and he declined to speak to them.The male has been charged with misdemeanor one counts of theft and receiving stolen property.
