State police at the Lehighton barracks are investigating a hit-and-run accident that happened at 4:05 p.m. Dec. 21 along Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township.

Police said a vehicle believed to be a Ford SUV was westbound on the highway when it passed a car operated by Trudyann Bonser, 47, of Lehighton, at which time the unknown driver failed to allow clearance space and, as a result, the left rear of the vehicle struck the right front of Bonser's 2008 Jeep Laredo. After impact, the SUV fled the scene.Bonser was uninjured.
