Large storage structure burns in Ryan Twp.

Large explosions could be heard as a storage structure burned during a fast-moving fire on Back Road in Barnesville (Ryan Township) just after 8 p.m. Sunday.

Nearly a hundred emergency responders were called to the blaze, located behind the home of 431 Back Road, owned by John Maddis.Despite a rapid response time the structure, located near the intersection of State Road, was completely engulfed when firemen arrived.Firefighters, from as far away as Shenandoah, used their tanker trucks to keep a large water bladder filled at the driveway to the home.Responding were fire companies from Ryan Township, Tamaqua, Delano, Quakake, Hometown, West Mahanoy, Mahanoy City, Shenandoah, and others. Also responding were Ryan Township and Rush Township police, and Ryan Township EMS.Both the Altamont Fire Company's Rapid Intervention Team, Frackville, and Tamaqua Rescue Squad, were on scene. Fire police volunteers blocked traffic for the duration. Even though the cause wasn't yet released, firefighters on scene stated the fire might have been caused from two fueled heat blowers located in the rear of the structure.No injuries were reported.
