Students at Tamaqua Area High school staged a boycott of classes in protest of what they perceive as the lack of ongoing negotiations in the school district's teacher contract dispute.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., several hundred students gathered in the high school gymnasium and refused to go to their classes, creating a demonstration in order to get both the Tamaqua Education Association (TEA) and the Tamaqua School Board to listen to their concerns.Teachers in the district are working without a contract, which expired in September, but are not taking part in extra-curricular activities, including coaching sports teams.
