The Northern Lehigh Halloween parade was scheduled for what turned out to be a day of threatening weather. Shortly before the parade was scheduled to begin the skies lightened slightly, and by the end the moon ruled the night sky.
By 5:30 p.m. people had staked out their viewing places with blankets and chairs lining the sidewalks of Walnutport and Slatington.Seven fire companies joined the line of march along with some large floats and people walking. Scouts were plentiful. The judges were James LeVan, Greg Soltis and Steve Hovighurst. As people waited the vendors were busy hustling their products, "Get your light- up here, get your light-up."Soft pretzels were kept warm. Someone said one of the vendor's carts was so colorful it had to be the best float in the parade.Skaters, bikers and scooters ruled the street after it was closed until the police cars came at the head of the parade. It was the 105th annual parade. The theme was "Las Vegas … Show us your best hand."Division 1 began with the mayors of both towns: Henry Kline of Walnutport and Walter Niedermyer of Slatington.
Haley Boger, 1-1/2, waits for the parade to start.
