Two Tamaqua churches will be holding pet blessing services this weekend in respect to the festival day of St. Francis of Assisi. Community members are encouraged to bring their leashed pets.

On Saturday, a Blessing of the Animals church service will be held at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pine and Mauch Chunk Street in Tamaqua. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Owners are responsible for proper control and any accidents of their pets. For more information, call the church at (570) 668-4570.On Sunday, a Blessing of the Animals church service will be held at the Calvary Episcopal Church, 300 West Broad Street in Tamaqua. The service will begin at 10:45 a.m. Following the service, there will be a second blessing service outside the church at noon. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcomed.
