The president is addressing the United Nations General Assembly today, taking time out from his rigorous schedule of campaign fundraising, campaigning in battleground states, and appearing on television shows like Dave Letterman and The View.

The United Nations is as good a place as any for the president to try and score political points on foreign policy, especially since those numbers have taken a hit recently with his handling of the embassy attack in Libya.The facts that the Muslim world is now on fire with anti-American rage and Iran moves ever closer to developing a nuclear weapon capable of threatening Israel, seem secondary to Team Obama's obsession to gaining another four years in the White House.The fact that the mainstream media has given this president a pass on the Benghazi embassy attack swallowing the administration's initial story that this was mob violence generated by a YouTube video is shameful. It took this White House more than a week to finally admit that the attacks in Libya were coordinated by terrorists. Many liberal news outlets, including The New York Times, chose to ignore or bury that revelation.The administration's excuse that it did not have all the facts and therefore had no evidence of the attacks being organized terrorism is a joke. Every person with half a brain knew that the attacks were too well-planned and well armed to be mob violence. And shouldn't the fact that the attack came on 9/11 arouse at least some suspicion?The president's response and questionable actions immediately after learning of the death of the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans also begged for answers. Instead, the mainstream liberal press seemed hardly fazed that the president chose to go on with a Las Vegas fundraiser right in the midst of the Middle East storm.Since the mainstream media seems to be in Obama's hip pocket and chooses not to confront the president with tough questions, it's up to the people to find for the answers. When a tough question is asked usually by Fox News it often still goes unreported by the other media sources, except for a handful of media organizations that still desire truthful, balanced reporting.One of the most ridiculous things this president said in an edited interview on '60 Minutes' last Sunday was his statement about Mideast violence. He said "there are going to be bumps in the road because ... in a lot of these places the one organizing principle has been Islam."Bumps in the road? Does this president really consider the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Chris Steven and three other Americans, the sight of U.S. flag being burned and stomped on throughout the Muslim world, and the fact that Israel's very existence is being threatened by hostile governments as mere "bumps in the road?"Two weeks ago, the press seemed outraged when Mitt Romney quickly challenged the administration's handling of the attacks in Libya."I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi," Romney said immediately afterward. It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."Romney's response was quick, decisive and sounded very presidential.It took this administration more than a week, meanwhile, to even admit that the attack was by trained terrorists and not by a mob incited by some bad YouTube video.By Jim Zbickjzbick@tnonline.com
