Karl Rolappe, chairman of the Towamensing Township Historical Commission, said only final approval from the Kuehners is required for a 99-year lease for the land on Church Road where the Greenzweig School is located. The land is to be leased and the school will become the property of the commission. If the building is damaged beyond repair the lease will be terminated.

Rudy Wolfe of Keystone Engineering helped prepare a sketch for the owners that would provide a larger setback. The school was only nine feet from the property line and is now 35 feet on the sketch.The Sept. 27 meeting of the commission will be at a barn on Beers Lane which has been improved. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m.In October the annual Preservation award will be presented at the supervisors' meeting.A bonfire and potluck dinner will be held at the Beers farm but the time has not been set.Fire Chief Wayne Knirnschild wanted approval for the fire police to do parking at the Haunted Waldorf Hotel in Forest Inn. The fire company roof needs repairs and he asked supervisors to include it in the 2013 budget. The company asked if it could borrow the crack sealer one weekend. Gary Anthony, a member of the company, knows how to use the equipment so it was approved.Resident George White asked what the township knew about the county recycling program being in trouble. The county trucks need repair which will be expensive.Supervisor Guy Seifert said there is no profit in glass, tin or plastic but that recycling keeps it out of the landfill. Aluminum and cardboard make money."It would have to be pretty negative before we would change anything," he said. "We are not set up to handle newspaper."Supervisor Penny Kleintop said recycling is better for the earth. If the township does not do it there will be more trash to pick up with an increase in price resulting.Renters who have recently moved have put out huge piles of garbage. The township picks it up but the homeowners will be billed. No building materials will be accepted.Resident Rick Mertz, 555 Summer Mountain Drive, said his property is across from the recreation fields. Water from the parking lot runs into his woods and he thinks the new softball field will make it worse. He thought the problem could be solved by increasing infiltration.Seifert said work has already begun but Greg Haas of Carbon Engineering was asked to take a look at the best way to solve the problem.Supervisors hope the new field will be ready for play next year.Cherie Fegely was the speaker for a group of people from Forest Street. She said it is dusty or muddy and there are no guard rails.Kleintop said it was patched last year and was scheduled for oil and chipping on Sept. 7. The Hemlock Street Bridge was closed on the recommendation of Carbon Engineering because there is no way to install guard rails. The township does not have the money to replace the bridge. People would prefer to use Hemlock Street rather than Forest.Seifert said the township hope is to reopen the bridge but the guard rails are a problem.Fegeley said detour signs for the bridge are confusing.The work crew will be in the area Sept. 7 and will check each of these items.The Gerald Smith subdivision was recommended for denial by he planning commission because the time had run out. Engineer Bobby Beers requested a 90-day extension.Eric Snyder of the Woods Campground said it needs its planning module approved by the Department of Environmental Protection. DEP had a lot of comments and a section had not been filled in by former secretary Pat Snyder. Seifert made a motion to take care of the problem with a new module. Haas will create a status report.Berkheimer will become the Earned Income Tax Collector for the county.A zoning-Saldo workshop will be held following the Sept. 10 planning commission hearing.Electronics recycling will take place Sept. 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sept. 25, noon to 6 p.m. at the Lehighton Borough Garage along East Penn Street across from Snyder Tire. Televisions, computers, monitors and other electronics are free for disposal. Air conditioners carry a $20 fee to remove the Freon. For information call 610-852-5111.J.D.
